Standard and custom made hydraulic cylinder seals

Pneumatic Seals are designed for low operating pressure. Pneumatic Seals are vital in machinery. Pneumatic Seals may be used for rotary and reciprocating motion. Common pneumatic seals include rod seals, piston seals, symmetrical seals, V-Rings, wipers, rotary shaft seals, wear rings, static seals, back-up rings, o-rings, buffer rings, u-cups and gaskets.

Pneumatic seals are any of a class of seals used in applications including rotary or reciprocating motions. They are often used in pneumatic cylinders and valves. Pneumatic seals require minimal lubrication when exposed to air in order to create a tight seal. Pneumatic seals may also be exposed to high operating speeds at which the pressure is not high. The difference between pneumatic seals and hydraulic seals is pressure. Pneumatic seals typically have a pressure range of 1 to 150 pound-force per square inch (psi), while hydraulic pressure can reach greater than 10,000 psi.

A typical Hydraulic seal consists of an integral PTFE ring and elastomer ring, providing the properties of an elastomeric ring with a rigid, low friction, Teflon coated (PTFE) working face. Hydraulic seals can have a variety of different cross sections. Hydraulic seals include shaft outer diameter or seal inner diameter, housing bore diameter or seal outer diameter, axial cross section or thickness, and radial cross section.

There are two categories for these industrial products. These are dynamic and exclusion seals. A dynamic seal is one that is used in order to separate a fluid from possible contaminants. It is utilized in order to put a gap between moving and non-moving surfaces like those found in piston ring applications. When considering dynamic seals, it is important to focus into a variety of dimensions like inside diameters, outside diameters, axial cross section, radial cross section and housing bore.

Exclusion seals are those that are used in order to separate contaminants from machine bearings. They remove any debris from moving shafts. These hydraulic seals can be sub-classified further into V-ring, scrapers and wipers. V-rings are those made out of rubber while wipers are those with lip seals that are flexible. Scrapers are those that contain scraping edges used in the process of removing contaminants from the bearings.
